The Curious Case of the Builders’ Waste

5 March 2011. Video frames taken – with his permission – from John McMullan’s YouTube video showing how he tracked builders’ dumped waste.
As John explains in his video, he was certain that waste in this container comes from building works done at number 35 Lausanne Road, London N8. The waste was in the large wheeled bin left in Harringay Passage – an alleyway round the corner.

On John’s Flickr stream you can see a photo of the note he put on the door giving the link to the YouTube video, This was taken away by the builders’ boss.

This is one more example of how cameras and access to free social media can give local residents new tools; to challenge and deter those landlords, developers, builders and others who behave without regard to the neighbourhoods where they make their money.
